Guide for authors
1. Aims and Scope
The Brazilian Journal of Mechanical Vibrations in Biosciences publishes original works in the field of mechanical vibrations and related biophysical agents applied to biosciences, health sciences, and related interdisciplinary areas. The journal welcomes clinical, experimental, translational, technological, and methodological studies involving mechanical vibration and its biological, physiological, biomechanical, and therapeutic implications. The journal accepts the following manuscript categories:
🔵 Original articles
🔵 Systematic reviews / Meta-analysies
🔵 Narrative or integrative reviews
🔵 Clinical trials
🔵 Protocols
🔵 Case reports
🔵 Conference abstracts
2. Editorial and Ethical Policies
The BJMVB is committed to maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity, transparency, and ethical publishing. The BJMVB follows the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, citation manipulation, and unethical research practices are not tolerated and may result in rejection, retraction, or editorial sanctions. When necessary, the journal may issue errata, corrigenda, expressions of concern, or retractions. All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any conflicts of interest. Research involving human participants or animals must have prior approval from an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board, and the manuscript must state the approving body and protocol number, when applicable.
It is recommended to explicitly include:
🔵 Publication ethics
– The BJMVB follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
🔵 Misconduct
– Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification and unethical research practices will result in rejection and possible sanctions.
🔵 Corrections and retractions
– Clear policy for errata, corrigenda, retractions and expressions of concern.
🔵 Conflicts of interest
– Mandatory disclosure for authors, reviewers and editors.
🔵 Human and Animal ethics
– Mandatory approval by Ethics Committees, with protocol numbers.
3. Authorship and Contributions
BJMVB adopts the authorship principles recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Authorship should be based on all four ICMJE criteria: substantial contribution to the work; drafting or critical revision of the manuscript; final approval of the version to be published; and accountability for all aspects of the work. All listed authors must meet all four criteria. Contributors who do not meet all authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately. The BJMVBjournal also recommends the use of the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) to specify each author’s contribution. A formal Author Contributions Statement must be included in the manuscript.
Explicitly adopt:
🔵 ICMJE authorship criteria (research as we can describe it);
🔵 CRediT taxonomy (Conceptualization, Methodology, Data curation, etc.).
4. Open Science, Data and Transparency
BJMVB encourages transparency and reproducibility in scientific reporting. Authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement indicating whether the data supporting the findings are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, or restricted for ethical or legal reasons. Whenever possible, authors are encouraged to deposit datasets, supplementary files, protocols, and statistical codes in trusted repositories such as OSF, Zenodo, or equivalent platforms. Statistical methods should be described with sufficient clarity, including the software used, version number when applicable, and relevant analytical parameters.
🔵 Data availability statement (if applicable).
🔵 Encouragement of data storage in trusted repositories (e.g., OSF, Zenodo).
🔵 Transparency in statistical analyses and software used.
5. Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright of their work. Upon publication, articles are made available under a Creative Commons license, preferably CC BY 4.0 (Attribution 4.0 International), which permits sharing, distribution, adaptation, and reuse of the material, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and the journal.
🔵 Authors retain copyright.
6. Peer Review Process
All manuscripts submitted to BJMVB undergo an initial editorial screening to assess scope, formatting, originality, and basic methodological adequacy. The journal adopts a double-blind peer review model, whenever applicable, in which authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other during the review process. Manuscripts considered suitable after editorial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers. The journal reserves the right to issue an editorial rejection without external peer review (desk rejection) when a manuscript is clearly outside the scope of the journal, does not meet minimum quality standards, or presents serious ethical or methodological concerns. Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and decline the review when they are unable to provide an impartial evaluation.
7. Submission System
BJMVB recommends that all manuscripts be submitted through a structured electronic form . Authors are required to complete all mandatory fields and upload the necessary documents, including the main manuscript file, title page, figures, tables, and supplementary materials, where applicable.
The submission system is designed to ensure standardized data entry, facilitate the peer-review process, and improve the overall efficiency of manuscript handling. Authors must ensure that all information provided is accurate and consistent with the submitted files. Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s formatting and submission requirements may be returned to the authors for correction prior to peer review.
8. Manuscript Preparation
Authors must ensure that manuscripts are prepared in clear, concise, and grammatically correct academic English, following the journal’s formatting and submission requirements. All submissions must be original and scientifically rigorous. The Vancouver referencing style is mandatory.
Title page
The title page must include the full title of the manuscript, authors’ names, institutional affiliations, ORCID, corresponding author details (including email), and any relevant disclosures (e.g., conflicts of interest, funding sources).
Abstract
Abstracts must be concise and informative. For original research, a structured format is recommended (e.g., Background, Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion). Word limits must be respected according to manuscript type.
Keywords
Authors must provide 3–6 keywords, preferably based on standardized vocabularies such as MeSH (Medical Subject Headings).
Tables
Tables must be editable, clearly formatted, and cited in the text. Each table must have a descriptive title and, where applicable, explanatory footnotes.
Figures and images
Figures and images must be submitted in high resolution and cited in the text in numerical order. Acceptable formats and minimum resolution requirements must be followed.
Figure captions
Each figure must include a concise and descriptive caption, explaining all symbols, abbreviations, and relevant details.
Generative artificil intelligence (AI) and Figures, images and artwork
The use of generative AI tools for creating or modifying figures, images, or artwork must be transparently disclosed. Authors are responsible for ensuring scientific accuracy, originality, and compliance with ethical and copyright standards.
Supplementary material
Supplementary files may include additional datasets, methodological details, reporting checklists, or multimedia content. These materials must be clearly labeled and referenced in the main text.
